What would an accountable AI actually have to do?
Look at the case you built
You defined bias, then gathered real evidence: erasure in Stage 2, misrepresentation in Stage 3, and the chain back to its source in Stage 4. Reread your Field Notes. You've done the work of a media-literacy investigator, about your own community.
From critic to designer
It's one thing to catch what's broken. The harder, more powerful move is to say what right would look like. Native scholars already wrote a starting point, the CARE principles:
- Collective Benefit, the AI should benefit the community, not just use it.
- Authority to Control, the community should have a say over its own data and representation.
- Responsibility, the people building it are answerable to the community.
- Ethics, the community's rights and wellbeing come first.
